N97 Firmware 2.0: Did Nokia Listen To tehkseven?

by Mike Macias on September 11, 2009

It’s no doubt that Nokia has heard our calls for big improvements in the N97 firmware. The N97 firmware version 2.0 – due out in 4-5 weeks – will essentially transform the whole N97 experience.  We know this thanks to various reports from Nokia World last week. These updates include kinetic scrolling, ram management issues, and a big one for me – long press for secondary functions on the keyboard. I can’t wait for this.

I can’t help but wonder – did Nokia see this video that our favorite theme master tehkseven posted just under a month ago…

Maybe they did. Or they just read the Engadget article instead ;-)

But regardless of who Nokia is listening to – at least they are hearing the cries…

Big Big…. BIG Things To Come

I’ve already posted about the N97 firmware 2.0 last week, but here is another video I found on the web today showcasing kinetic scrolling, album art in song lists and some new features that I haven’t heard about! As you scroll through contacts the letter of the alphabet you are on shows overlayed on the screen so you know if you are in the B, C, or D’s.

Props to Symbian World for capturing that footage.

I honestly can’t wait for this firwmare to drop. For those wondering - the N97 Mini will ship with this firmware out of the box.

My camera was fixed too! > Oh and did I mention the last N97 that I had was sent back to Nokia Care because of a scratched lens. Well they sent me a new N97 and to this day I have no scratches. Not sure what they changed but whatever they did – it’s fixed!

A Theme Can Go  A Long Way

Besides a good firmware update, the theme you have on your N97 can go a long way in making your device look and feel a lot better. For instance, check out tehk’s latest masterpiece from the new Evo series :

Evo Bold

Boy oh boy that is MONEY! Which is why it costs money ;-) . Only €2.00 ($2.90) which ain’t that much for the amount of time thememasters put in.

Visit the Evo download page.

If you don’t think you should have to pay for themes… watch this hilarious video tehk put together.

If you still don’t want to pay – that’s fine. Tehkseven also makes some cool free themes.

Ok. It’s Friday and I’m out. Before I go – I just want to take a moment to remember all those who died in the 9/11 attacks on the United States of America. We will never forget.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Just clarifying here, you were able to send your n97 to nokia and they sent you a brand new one free of charge, because of the lense thing alone?

  • http://www.n97fanatics.com Mike Macias

Sounds like you might have a faulty battery. Can you change it out?

    hmm i got a message today there was a new firmware, it's not 2.0 though, it's 1.2.
Is the 2.0 software delayed (cause i don't think they'll be releasing 2.0 a few weeks after this update) or is it me who's late with updating my phone to 1.2?

Umm, I did what the person at the phone shop told me to.
Charge the phone for 8 or 10 hours. (When I bought it)
Charged it for 10 hours, hoping that it wouldn't ruin the battery life like what happened to my N82's battery. (Charged it for 2 hours instead of 6)
BUT, seems like my N97 COULDN'T last for 2 days if I play with it (Like opening applications, messaging, calling, web browsing, etc)
Is it my battery or is that really how it's meant to be?
